Buddhism was introduced into Japan after
6th century.
And Buddhism brought Japan much cultures which were in China, the
Korean Peninsula, etc.
Aristocratic Buddhism prospered from Nara period to Heian period.
Zen sect was circulated by samurai class around from 13th century,
and many sects of the Kamakura Buddhism, such as Jodo sect and Nichiren
sect, spread to the public.
In 16th century Sin sect (another name is Ikko sect) had spread
to farmers, and the resistance against feudal rule so called Ikko
riot happened to many places.
At Edo period Tokugawa shogunate forbade Christianity, and in order
to eliminate Christianity, Buddhism was used as the tool which governed
the people .
Today's Japan is told that there are 75,000 in all temples about
each cult.
Although Buddhism is a foreign religion, but it has rooted in Japan
and is completely peculiar to Japan, moreover temples also represent
Japanese culture.
It is a regrettable thing that there are few temples which have
an English site, if visitors want to understand Japanese culture
through these sites, we, Japan plaza, suppose that is a very good
chance.
It is the temple which
deified Yakushi Nyorai on Ichi Hatayama of Shimane Prefecture.
There are a lot of believers in the whole country as Yakushi
who treats eye disease.
