Temple

Buddhism was introduced into Japan after 6th century.
And Buddhism brought Japan much cultures which were in China, the Korean Peninsula, etc.
Aristocratic Buddhism prospered from Nara period to Heian period.
Zen sect was circulated by samurai class around from 13th century, and many sects of the Kamakura Buddhism, such as Jodo sect and Nichiren sect, spread to the public.
In 16th century Sin sect (another name is Ikko sect) had spread to farmers, and the resistance against feudal rule so called Ikko riot happened to many places.
At Edo period Tokugawa shogunate forbade Christianity, and in order to eliminate Christianity, Buddhism was used as the tool which governed the people .
Today's Japan is told that there are 75,000 in all temples about each cult.
Although Buddhism is a foreign religion, but it has rooted in Japan and is completely peculiar to Japan, moreover temples also represent Japanese culture.
It is a regrettable thing that there are few temples which have an English site, if visitors want to understand Japanese culture through these sites, we, Japan plaza, suppose that is a very good chance.
